Also known as Harties, the dam is situated in the North West Province of South Africa.
It lies in a valley between the Magalies and Witwatersberg mountain ranges.
The name means “pass of the hartbees”, a species of antelope in Afrikaans.
The dam covers approximately 18.83 square kilometers and has a maximum depth of 45 meters.
It is fed by the Crocodile and Magalies Rivers
Less than one hours drive from Jo'burg, lies our country's largest stretch of navigable inland water.
